Angewandte Neurokognitive Psychologie

Wie repräsentiert und verarbeitet das menschliche Gehirn die Sinneseindrücke aus unserer unserer natürlichen Umwelt und wie repräsentiert es verständlichen Informationen darüber? Wie beeinflussen die Komplexität realistischer Aufgaben und Emotionen unsere kognitiven Leistungen und Entscheidungen, z.B. beim Multitasking. Hilft uns ein besseres Verständnis der funktionellen Organisation des Gehirns unsere Analysetechniken zu verbessern und genauere Aussagen über Gehirnprozesse im allgemeinen und im individuellen Gehirn machen? Wie können wir neurowissenschaftliche Forschung offener und FAIRer machen? Das sind Fragen mit denen sich die Arbeitsgruppe beschäftigt.

Diese Forschung erfordert neue innovative Ansätze und Methodenentwicklung. In einem Forschungsschwerpunkt untersuchen wir Sprachvearbeitung in realistischen Hintergründen mit relativ realistischen Reizen wie Filmsoundtracks. In einem weiteren Schwerpunkt untersuchen wir Kognition und Entscheiden in selbst entwickelten Fahrsimulatoren im MRT, MEG und fNIRS. In dieser empirischen Forschung benutzen wir symbolische und datengetrieben subsymbolische AI-Methoden um Gehirnfunktionen zu modellieren und zu analysieren. In einem methodischen Schwerpunkt entwickeln wir Werkzeuge und Verfahren für Open Science, um Neurodaten FAIR und interoperabel zu machen. Weiterhin entwickeln wir Verfahren zur Kombination von Gehrinaktivitätsmessungen über Individuen, die besser an die Funtionsweise des Gehirns angepasst sind. Diese haben Implikationen für Theorien der Gehirnfunktion aber auch praktischen Nutzen z.B. in Big Data Forschungsanwendungen und zum “Warmstart” von Gehirn-Maschine Schnittstellen.
