Cryptochrome Sequencing in Fish
We investigate the cryptochrome gene family in fish and their ability to
detect changes in the surrounding magnetic field. In a current effort,
we try to identify potential genomic regions of CRY4 and CRY5 in several
fish species and provide experimental evidence by RNA sequencing.
The project is split into two parts. The first part is to identify genomic regions of
interest in published reference genomes, predict CRY4/CRY5 transcripts, and estimate the completeness
of those. The second part is extraction of RNA from suitable specimen and full sequencing of the
putative transcripts by designing specific primers.
We are looking for a candidate who is interested in lab work as well as
bioinformatics and is eager to learn these techniques.
