Shorten your studies through prior learning assessment and recognition (PLAR) By applying for credit of prior learning, you can shorten your studies. The examination board will review and if accepted, will apply credit for MTEL course modules. If this is the case, you will be able to take fewer course modules – and substantially reduce your financial investment.

Receiving Credit for Prior Learning

As a working professional, you bring with a wide range of practical experience and specialised competences in your professional field. You may have also acquired further vocational training or additional qualifications to your vocational training. C3L utilizes a contemporary Process for Approving Prior Learning for recognizing and applying credit for existing skills and competences. This credit can allow you to reduce the duration and costs of your studies.

What counts toward prior learning?

  • Certifications of study at other universities
  • Certifications of study from community colleges or vocational schools
  • Specialist training and continuing education qualifications
  • Competences acquired through professional activities

As a result of the C3L PLAR process, you receive credit for current skills and competences, and you no longer need to study content in which you are already have expertise. You can apply for PLAR credit at any time: before, during, or even after applying for placement in the programme.

How will your PLAR application be assessed?

The decision on applying credit for prior learning is made by the examination board for specific study programme. Credit is normally given when your prior learning is equivalent to course module learning outcomes or content.
