The Electrocatalysis Group headed by Prof. Dr. Mehtap Oezaslan at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg was established in August 2014.
Our research is focused on various electrocatalytic processes for the applications in fuel cell and electrolysis systems. Fuel cells and electrolyzers have gained world-wide interest as future clean technologies for energy conversion and energy storage. Yet, their large-scale commercialization is largely hindered by the high electrode loadings and the insufficient durability of the precious and rare metals under operating conditions.

Our goal is to understand the relationships between
structure - composition - catalytic activity - durability
for various electrochemical reactions in fuel cell and electrolysis systems.

We are primarily concerned with the development of new, efficient and robust electrocatalysts with controlled structure, composition, particle size and particle shape. In combination of a broad tool of unique and advanced in-situ and ex-situ high resolution microscopic and spectroscopic techniques, we provide fundamental insights into the reaction mechanisms and kinetics of electrochemical processes.
