Minutes: Workshop III - Sponsoring - When How Where - everything an FSR should know
Sponsoring - When How Where - everything an FSR should know
- Brief introduction and question to the group as to whether there is experience in the area of sponsoring
Why is sponsorship important?
- Organising events that you can't actually afford
- Bringing events closer through gimmicks
Legal issues
- Problem of VAT exemption
- Passive sponsoring, i.e. no consideration → in particular no advertising activity for the sponsor
- Student bodies are often too lax → Problem of tax evasion
- Active sponsoring through a donation receipt (donations §10 b EStG)
What can a student body sponsor?
- Consumer goods
- Goodies & give-aways for first-year bags or graduate events
- Companies are very interested → first impression then leads to long-lasting moments
- Infrastructure & services also on sustainable products such as cups
- First-year students in particular need such things
- Decoration & vouchers (typical: Red Bull fridges)
How can a student body convince sponsors?
- Making contact is difficult at first
- Official appearance very essential through
- Sponsoring mail template (closing phrase is also important)
- Provide important contact details,
- the sponsoring concept / pitch deck etc. (Who are we?, What do we do?, Advertising opportunities, Contact person for queries and to give the sponsor a face) → Building trust
- Request for banners etc.
- Team building in the Student council is often more effective than "going it alone"
- Present as important as possible
- Corona concept
How to find sponsors?
- Search for companies (regionally or via Google)
- Present sponsors and their contacts
- WG hero by advertising on the website
- Implement an Instagram page → be as student-oriented as possible to meet the needs of the target group (targeted advertising)
- Problem of sponsoring contraceptives
- Remaining stock and minimum durability goods work quite well
- Facebook rather less, as usage in the target group is low
What kind of events are made possible?
- Example at the ESE week beer pong tournament (TU Dresden)
- Lending of lighting technology to also organise outdoor events
- Example: Online party during the Corona period
- Example: Competition (puzzle games)
Sponsoring tips
- Why no nicotine, but alcohol?
- With whom? With regard to contracts
- Problem with Rittersport: current war between Russia and Ukraine → Should you stop sponsoring?
- Publicity effect
Round of questions
- Can an FSR offer the sponsor something in return? (Do not offer consideration in the email)
- Detailed mail template for an exemplary basic structure for a specific sponsorship proposal
- Presentation of the FSR's pitch deck for better visualisation
