German and Dutch Language, Linguistics, and History

Academic contacts in the field of German and Dutch Language and Linguistics, including Low German (Plattdeutsch) and Lower Saxon Languages, will be maintained in the coming years. The focus will be on academic workshops and seminars as well as the joint supervision of PhD candidates.

Language acquisition workshops for linguists are already hosted on an annual basis. The established forms of cooperation will be continued while student mobility in this and related areas will be increased.

History, Cultural Heritage and Public Engagement

The geographical proximity of UOL and UG is a special asset for the cooperation, especially with regard to cultural heritage, historical and theological studies, and public engagement. Cooperation projects dedicated to monasteries, churches and the reformation in the Ems Dollart Region (EDR) have been established already. Joint supervisions of PhD candidates are being planned, as are various ways of cooperating with museums, archives and libraries in the region.

The wealth of historical artefacts and collections in museums, libraries, monasteries and churches in the Northwest is immense. It is an important source for research and education. It also adds a special flavour to the lives of those who feel connected to the region or who are interested in its places of residence. UOL and UG can thus contribute, as they have in the past, to the public engagement of their cities and region by highlighting their work and findings via exhibitions, public lectures and other formats.
