On 21 January, the Chemistry-in-Action competition took place at the Institute

This year, the Institute of Chemistry once again hosted the "Chemistry in Action" competition for year 9 and 10 students in co-operation with the Forschungszentrum Nordwest.

The "Chemistry in Action" chemistry competition, organised in co-operation with the Northwest Research Centre, took place again this year at the Institute of Chemistry. The competition was held over two days. This year, 12 teams and thus 48 students from grades 9 and 10 took part in the competition.

On the first day, the students conducted a literature search in the university library. After an input on literature research, the students were given a short introduction to designing scientific posters and then had the task of designing their own poster.
On the second day, the teams were given a practical task to solve in the Institute's laboratories: In the time allotted, they had to arrive at the solution through independent experimentation.
After a break and a rest, things continued in the small lecture theatre: specialist knowledge was tested with the help of a written test. Each student had to work out the answers to the questions on their own.
Team spirit was once again required for the final part of the competition: the individual teams presented their posters with a short presentation.

Finally, prizes were awarded to the best students:

  • Ineke Müller, Teletta-Gross Gymnasium Leer, received the prize for the best student in year 9.
  • Piet Uphoff, Herbert Gymnasium Oldenburg, received the prize for the best student in year 10.

The team prizes were awarded as follows:

  • 1st place went to the students from Liebfrauenschule Cloppenburg: Finn Kraßmann, Johanna Meyer, Aurelia Rommel and Jan Schürmann.
  • Second place went to the pupils of the Altes Gymnasium Oldenburg: Felix Blum, Katja Hammels, David Mahlon and Tue Minh Vu.
  • 3rd place went to pupils from Neues Gymnasium Oldenburg: Max Bachmann, Arwen Sandmann-Stührmann, Jonas Stenzel and Lara Stuntebeck.
  • The best poster was designed by pupils from Liebfrauenschule Oldenburg: Philp Ottmann, Charlotte Schlosser, Tobias Schrandt and Johanna Wieferink.

Organisation and implementation: Dr. Ingeborg Buschmann,
