DiZ funding for researchers in early-career stages
For many years, the Teacher Training Centre in Oldenburg has been successfully training the next generation of academics, made possible, amongst other things, by funding from the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture. Since 2001, the Centre for Didactics (DiZ) has supported and co-ordinated doctoral programmes that focus on various aspects of teacher training and are organised on a cross-school basis. Since 2021, the DiZ Research Academy has taken on this role.
Since 2001, five doctoral programmes have been carried out in succession: the MWK-funded projects ‘Didactic Reconstruction’ (ProDid) with two funding periods, ‘Processes of Subject-Specific Didactic Structuring’ (ProfaS), ‘Learning Processes in the Transition Space – Empirically Investigating and Modelling the Practical Placements of Teacher Training Students’ (LÜP) and “STEM Learning in Informal Settings – Investigating Processes of Inquiry-Based Learning at Extracurricular STEM Learning Venues and Their Embedding in Regional Learning Contexts” (GINT). Building on these experiences, the Research Training Group “Teacher Education 2040: Dimensions of Teacher Professionalisation from an Interdisciplinary Perspective – Challenges, Models, Methods”, funded by the President’s Office from 2022 to 2024 , has been established .
What sets teacher education in Oldenburg apart is its interdisciplinary nature – that is, the close collaboration between subject-specific didactics, subject-specific sciences and educational sciences, which interact across their disciplinary boundaries.
Co-operation with other universities in Lower Saxony, Germany and across Europe also broadens and fosters this discourse.
