University Study Abroad

One of the most popular options for heading abroad among Oldenburg students has been to attend university in another country. This usually allows students to gain a wide range of insights into academic culture and higher education in the Anglophone world and how it differs from Germany, as well as proving extremely beneficial for developing advanced language skills. Not to mention the fact that it can be a great deal of fun!

The following pages provide an introduction to the process of choosing where to study, which courses to take, and the application process. The main choice students are faced with is whether to apply for a direct exchange programme or Erasmus+, take advantage of partnership agreements with reduced fees (where the fees are largely covered by AuslandsBAföG), or apply to an overseas university directly as a "Free Mover". (Note that due to extremely high international tuition fees the latter is really only an option for Europe). There is also a discussion of other funding options.
