Respectful, confident, assured – professional competence in university medicine

How can we work, learn and conduct research together respectfully and safely within the university hospital setting – where hierarchies, dependencies and differing positions of power play a role? How can we recognise boundary violations and discrimination at an early stage? And what can we do if we are affected ourselves or observe that boundaries are being crossed?

The series of events ‘Respectful, Safe, Confident – Competence for Action in University Medicine’ invites students and staff at all professional, career and hierarchical levels within the UMO to engage with power structures, boundary violations and respectful coexistence. The focus is on strengthening empowerment, knowledge and confidence in taking action in everyday professional and university life.

Workshops, talks and presentations will cover topics including the abuse of power, sexual harassment and sexual violence within the healthcare system, discrimination and diversity, prevention and intervention strategies, as well as acting with confidence in challenging situations. Whilst some events are specifically aimed at particular groups, other formats are open to anyone interested.

The series combines expert insights with practical exercises and provides space for reflection and discussion. The aim is to gain a better understanding of structures, to strengthen one’s own position and capacity for action, and to work together to foster a safe, respectful and discrimination-sensitive culture at University Medicine Oldenburg.

We look forward to your participation and to an open, respectful exchange!
