FWJ: Visceral surgery

About us

Research at the Department of Visceral Surgery at Pius Hospital focuses on typical issues associated with abdominal and thyroid surgery. For example, patients come to us with bowel cancer or problems with the pancreas. We follow these patients in studies and assess, for example, the success of operations or quality of life.
The other branch of research is more technically orientated. In various projects with different project partners, we are investigating, for example, how virtual reality can be used in diagnosis, surgical planning or in communication with patients, or how technical equipment in the operating theatre can be improved to reduce the workload for operating theatre staff and increase patient safety.

Description of the FWJ place

We are looking for a person to support us with one or two of these projects by taking responsibility for them after appropriate training. This means, among other things, collecting questionnaire data and digitising it in Excel, measuring EEGs on test subjects or collecting data in the operating theatre. Of course, the person will have a certain say in the choice of the end of project(s).
The person should also help us with the organisation of scientific events, search for literature in suitable sources and take on other small tasks that arise in scientific work.
There is the opportunity to look into all areas of the university hospital and thus take part in patient consultations in the outpatient clinic, operations and care on the ward.
Overall, we place great value on teamwork, so that the necessary help and support will always come from us. However, we also want to strengthen the person's independence by enabling them to take on projects on their own responsibility after appropriate instruction, as described above.

Desired prior knowledge

  • Basic knowledge of Excel, Word and Powerpoint
  • Be able to read English
  • You should be interested in medical and medical technology research and in contact with patients
