Hendrik Rump, founder and CEO of Quantumfrog GmbH: "We are immensely pleased about the award for "El Hijo" at the DCP and the associated recognition from the expert jury. I would also like to thank the Quantumfrog team, who have worked tirelessly over the last few years to create exceptional gaming experiences, as well as the team at Honig Studios, who made it possible for us to work on such a great project as a cooperation partner. It's a great feeling to be recognised for this work by experienced industry professionals. A big thank you also goes to Nordmedia, which supported us in Lower Saxony with a grant for the production of the game!"
The German Computer Game Award has been presented since 2009 and is the most important prize for the German games industry. The jury selects games based on aspects such as quality, innovative content, fun to play and cultural and educational appeal. A total of 351 games were submitted for the German Computer Game Award 2021 and nominated in 15 categories.
The adventure game El Hijo - A Wild West Tale focuses on the exciting and emotional background story of a boy and his mother. In emotional, exciting and heart-wrenching moments throughout the game, this story focuses on the reunion of a family and their bond to and with each other. In the core gameplay, the ingenious stealth mechanics stand out in particular, which have been intuitively implemented for all age groups to enable shared gaming experiences across generations. The game mechanics are easy to learn and accessible. El Hijo - A Wild West Tale is available for PC and Stadia and was also released on Playstation, Xbox platforms and Nintendo Switch on 25 March 2021. The game was developed under the leadership of Honig Studios together with Quantumfrog as co-developer, with HandyGames acting as publisher.
Epic Guardian was recognised as one of the three best games in the "Best Mobile Game" category at the German Developer Award 2020 in January 2021. The game is based on a unique gameplay concept that focuses much more strongly on the player and their progress compared to other mobile games in the RPG sector. During development, Quantumfrog aimed to create a gameplay experience in the style of classic role-playing games and to focus on learning new skills, crafting and extensive dungeons. Visually, Epic Guardian features a unique voxel art graphic style that clearly sets it apart from other mobile games. The internal development phase of Epic Guardian began back in 2016, the same year that the Global Top Round joined as a supporter with a seed investment. After two years of work, the beta phase began in 2018. The game has already attracted the attention of various awards, competitions and publishers, and Quantumfrog has been working with Polish games publisher Sheepyard since 2019.
