Problem areas and ethical dilemmas within the triad of people with dementia, live-in carers and family members. An analysis of online content and online focus groups

The majority of people with dementia in Germany still live in private households. In order to cover the comprehensive care requirements for dementia despite the limited scope of the statutory care insurance, many people resort to so-called live-in help, which usually comes from Eastern European countries.

Families who opt for this form of home care are usually left to organise it on their own. Online forums and groups in social networks are one of the few opportunities to discuss the topic of live-in care with other people affected.

The joint project of the Organisational Care Research and Ethics in Medicine departments focuses on the perspectives and argumentation patterns of families who are responsible for the home care of a person with dementia and have engaged live-in help or are considering this option. Combining care science and ethical approaches, we analyse topics, problem areas and moral conflicts in the care of people with dementia through live-in help based on the statements of relatives.
