My current research focus lies on the Neodymium isotope composition of sediments of the South Pacific Ocean. I reconstruct past changes in deep and bottom water masses from the Last Glacial Maximum troughout the deglaciation and into the Holocene by the use of Nd isotope sigantures of fossil fish remains (teeth and bone fragments) and Fe-Mn oxide precipitates.
I also plan to have a closer look to changes in Nd isotope signatures of water masses throughout the last glacial stage and back into the Eemian interglacial.
Furthermore, I’m interested in the Nd isotope signature and REE concentrations of seawater of the North Pacific Ocean close to the island of Oahu. The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of the Hawaiian Islands on the dissolved Nd isotope signature and REE budget of the near coastal waters, and in particular the contribution of submarine groundwater discharge.
