The ICBM took part in the central event to mark the Day of German Unity on 2 and 3 October with an information stand. The ICBM's presence focussed on the presentation of the EU project Citclops. The citizen science project gives interested parties from all areas of society the opportunity to support marine science by using the Citclops app on their smartphone.

On the first day of the event, Lower Saxony's Minister for Science and Culture, Dr Gabriele Heinen-Kljajić, visited the marine research stand, which the ICBM shared with the Hannover Coastal Research Centre. In addition to Citclops, the Minister was also given an overview of the ICBM's permanent measuring station south-west of Spiekeroog and the Institute's other research work.

On both days of the event, more than 500,000 visitors gathered information in over 100 tents with exhibitors from all Federal States at the Lower Saxony Mile in Hanover.
