The Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg is an internationally active, interdisciplinary university with a clear research orientation in the breadth of its subjects and in its academic teaching. With the announcement of these "digitalization professorships", the university intends to significantly expand its interdisciplinary, science-based profile in the secure design of digital transformation processes, which is expressed, among other things, in the research centre "Human-Cyber-Physical Systems: Safety, Acceptance, Social and Cultural Embeddedness" and in cooperation with the affiliated institute OFFIS

W3-Professorship „Foundations and Applications of Systems of Cyber-Physical Systems“

We are looking for a personality with an outstanding international track record in Automated Reasoning whose research focuses on applications in artificial intelligence. Extensive research experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:

  • Logical calculi, especially for non-standard logic, for the description and verification of statistical and other learning methods,
  • Rigorous statistical methods for the validation of machine learning,
  • Mathematical formalization of machine learning methods and the associated optimization goals as a starting point for verification,
  • Automatic Reasoning in the context of validation and explanation of machine learning methods and trained algorithms; in particular, generation of explanations from proofs and updating of certificates during in-situ learning.

We are looking for a personality from the field of systems-engineering, with an outstanding international qualification in both safety and security. Extensive research experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:

  • In-depth knowledge of the relevant procedures and processes for proving system security and resilience of safety-critical systems against cyber-attacks
  • Human factors in the development of safety-critical systems
  • Integration of the design of user interfaces into the threat analysis

W2 Professorship (m/f/d) in "Distributed Control in Interconnected Systems"

We are looking for a candidate with an outstanding international track record in computer science, electrical engineering or control engineering whose research on control and optimization of cooperative, interconnected and distributed dynamic energy systems bridges the gap between computer science and electrical engineering (energy informatics). In addition to predictive control and decentralized optimization of subsystems, the professorship shall contribute to mastering the dynamics of a large number of coupled subsystems, taking into account socio-technical influence factors. Extensive research experience in one or more of the following areas is expected:

  • Control of complex systems with stochastic parameters and structures
  • Analysis of dynamic processes in coupled systems and methodical design and configuration of distributed control algorithms
  • Stochastic nonlinear model predictive (potentially heuristic) control
  • Model-based methods for design and analysis of multi-modal digitalized energy systems
