Echo by Philipp Stiller (2025)

In a deserted world, a small robot picks up a mysterious signal and sets out to find its source. On his journey, he travels through forgotten places and begins to take increasing notice of his surroundings and react to them. In the process, he gradually develops a voice of his own.
Echo explores how a story can be told through the interplay of image and sound, with sound playing the decisive role in the narrative. Music, sound effects and atmospheric soundscapes fulfil essential narrative functions and are in constant dialogue with the visual elements. They accompany the robot’s development from a state of isolation towards a more conscious awareness of its surroundings and of itself.

Philipp Stiller completed his Bachelor’s degree in Musicology at the Karl-Franzens University of Graz and studied Integrated Media at the University of Oldenburg. He is currently working as a sound technician at the theatre in Heilbronn. His work encompasses the fields of sound design and audio production for various media and theatrical contexts. In addition, he is interested in electronic music, experimental sound generation and the interplay between sound and visual design. In his practical Master’s thesis, *Echo*, he explores the narrative possibilities of sound in conjunction with the visual dimension.
