Prof. Dr Dieter Haselbach:AN ECONOMIC VIEW OF THE CULTURE AND MUSIC SECTOR - PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION OF THE RESULTS OF THE CULTURE ECONOMY REPORT OF LOWER SAXONY

Dieter Haselbach is an associate professor of sociology at the University of Marburg and also teaches social sciences in Canada, England and Austria.

Dieter Haselbach has been working as a consultant for the cultural and creative industries for 20 years. As an expert in this field, he wrote the chapter on the creative industries in the Bundestag's Enquete Report "Culture in Germany" and co-wrote the Cultural Industries Report 2007 in Lower Saxony. He has also worked as a consultant for the Mannheim National Theatre, for opera houses in Berlin and Leipzig and for the Frankfurt Economic Initiative.

At the beginning of 2008, the state of Lower Saxony published its second Cultural Industries Report. With a study on value creation in the music industry, it broke new ground compared to the previous report.

Beginning with a definition of the cultural industries and a research policy categorisation, Dieter Haselbach talks about the music industry in the face of the digital challenge, the regulatory context of the promotion of the cultural industries and the possible effects of the current financial and economic crisis on the cultural industries.
