Joint excursion to Bremen with researchers from all over Lower Saxony and Bremen

Moin dear international researchers,

We would like to invite you to a joint excursion to the city of Bremen, on Saturday, 18 March 2023 to get to know other researchers from Lower Saxony and Bremen, to explore Bremen and to spend a great day together.

We will meet at 11:00 am in front of the main entrance of Bremens‘ central train station. From there we will walk to the city centre together of Bremen and participate in a guided city tour (11:45 am). For a joint late lunch (approx. 13:15 pm) we will then go out on the water, as we feast at the Pannekoekschip on the Weser.

The rest of the day is yours to do as you please. We have collected a few suggestions:

  • Übersee Museum: The Übersee-Museum combines a collection of ethnology, trade and natural history that is unique in Europe into a unified experience. This is where you can dive into distant continents while discovering their fascinating cultural and natural environments with unique exhibits from around the world, masterful animal dioramas and real plants. The museum is located at the central train station (Bahnhofsplatz 13, 28195 Bremen). Admission costs 9 – 14 €.
  • Weserstadion: The Weserstadion is the stadium of Bremen's first league soccer club Werder Bremen. Where do the press conferences take place? How long is the players' tunnel? What is it like to sit on the coaches' bench? And where do the referees change? On a guided tour you can find out everything you need to know about the club and the history of the stadium. The stadium is located directly on the Weser. The guided tour starts at 2 pm and costs 8 €.
  • Weserburg Museum: The current exhibition is called What is the Proper Way to Display a Flag? and focuses on international positions from an international context and endeavors, by means of contemporary artistic production, to reflect upon the significance, impact and utilization of flags. The selected works present artistic strategies that use flags as material or as a contentual point of reference; included in the exhibition are space-encompassing installations, painting, photography, and video works. The Weserburg is located between the two arms of the Weser on a holm, the so-called Teerhof (Teerhof 20, 28199 Bremen). Admission costs 9 €.

Our Bremen Welcome Center team will be available throughout the day, you can also form small groups or take part in the suggested events (Übersee Museum, Weserstadium, Weserburg museum) individually.

A brief overview of the planned day:

  • 11:00 am Meeting at the main station Bremen
  • 11.45 am Start of a guided tour of Bremen's old town
  • 13:15 am Dinner together on the Pannekoekschip
  • Free time to organise the day individually (e.g. a visit to the Überseemuseum, the Weserburg Museum or the Weser Stadium)
  • Own departure

One more note about the costs: The guided city tour is free of charge. The costs for travel to and from the event as well as for lunch (8-15 €) must be covered by the participants themselves.
