What?

Our Summer Courses is an intensive German language course taught by an experienced and professional teacher. The course covers 100 hours and focuses on the standard use of spoken and written German and on central issues of modern German society. Attention is paid to developing all four skills: speaking, reading, listening and writing.

Local excursions are offered weekly as an integral part of the academic program. These feature a city tour of Oldenburg and Bremen, a trip to the North Sea coast, to nearby towns etc. Participants will thus get a deeper cultural understanding of Northern Germany. Expenses for the German course and excursions are covered by the University of Oldenburg.

Why should I join?

Attending our Summer Course in Oldenburg will give you the opportunity to experience authentic German life. For a whole month you will immerse yourself in an entirely new setting with new people and a lot of interesting activities.

The University of Oldenburg is known for its wide range of research and teaching and its focus on cutting edge science and training. You will be getting the chance to be part of the University life for a month. This will give you an authentic impression of what studying in Germany is like. If you enjoy yourself you might think of returning (or staying on) as an exchange student and study at the University of Oldenburg.

Will I get credits for it?

Participants earn 6 ECTS credit points for attending the four-week German course. Transfer of grades must be arranged at the home university’s German department. Coursework can be graded.

Am I eligible?

The course is designed for students studying German at a level of A2 (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). This translates roughly into the level of second-year/second-year plus German students. Applicants should have attended 200–350 German lessons before the start of the Summer Course.

The course addresses students from our partner universities in the US, Canada, South Africa, Australia, and Northwest Europe. Students from other partner universities are welcome to join the group on a space available basis.
