About us

ICBM is an interdisciplinary research institute for fundamental and applied marine research. The internationally renowned institute aims at understanding the functioning of marine environmental systems through close cooperation of the various scientific disciplines (chemistry, biology, physics, mathematical modelling) of its more than 20 research groups. 

Your tasks

The position is available in the Plankton Ecology group at the ICBM Wilhelmshaven. For more information on our research and teaching, please visit our lab website (https://uol.de/en/icbm/research-groups/plankton-ecology).

Your profile

We expect a team-oriented, communicative and open-minded researcher with

  • Excellent doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) and a qualifying university degree (master or diploma) in the natural sciences with a focus on marine ecology, biological oceanography or a related field of ecology
  • Own scientific profile in plankton ecology (phyto-/zooplankton) as evidenced by (e.g.) international peer-reviewed publications, postdoctoral training, project proposals, or conference contributions  
  • Strong background in general ecological frameworks and interest in ecological theory, to be detailed in the letter of motivation
  • Willingness and ability to contribute to the teaching of the Plankton Ecology Lab, previous teaching experience is an advantage
  • Fluent written and spoken English, German language skills are advantageous (a successful candidate should be able to teach in German within 2 years)
  • Motivation to write own proposals for third party funding, previous experiences is an advantage
