The Institute for Chemistry and Biology of the Marine Environment (ICBM) is an interdisciplinary institute of the University of Oldenburg with facilities in Oldenburg and Wilhelmshaven. It is the only university institute in Lower Saxony that covers broad areas of marine science in both research and teaching. 26 working groups from various scientific disciplines - including biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and engineering sciences - belong to the institute. The ICBM operates the coastal observatory Spiekeroog and is home institute of the research vessel Sonne.

Professorship (f/m/x) Anthropocene Coast
salary scale W2
as soon as possible. Place of work is Wilhelmshaven.
We are looking for a geoscientist with strong competence in geology, sedimentology, geoecology and/or geobotany of coastal systems, preferably with a focus on the study of shelf seacoasts. The professor to be appointed should address fundamental questions of coastal evolution under natural conditions and as a consequence of human impacts on coastal areas, with a particular focus on the consequences of climate change. Modern concepts of paleoecological and actuogeological research shall be applied. Participation in future interdisciplinary, process- and biodiversity-oriented research projects of the ICBM (see ongoing research collaborations at www.icbm.de) and in joint research cruises is required. Teaching responsibilities include the complete field of geosciences in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs. Applicants shall demonstrate their ability to connect to the described focus areas in research and teaching in a concept of max. 5 pages each.
As the University of Oldenburg and the University of Bremen are bound by a cooperation agreement, active participation in the cooperation is expected.
Prerequisites for employment are specified in section 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG).
