About us

The research focus of the ULTRA group is the coherent control of ultrafast quantum dynamics in atoms and molecules using shaped femtosecond (fs) laser pulses. The aim of this project is to explore the coherent control of ultrafast electron dynamics in chiral molecules with tailored three-dimensional (3D) fs-laser fields. The tailored 3D-fields are generated by non-collinear superposition of two polarization-shaped fs-laser beams of different wavelengths. The chiral dynamics are observed using photoelectron velocity map imaging (VMI) techniques. A sub-goal of the project is the development of a VMI spectrometer, specifically designed for the non-collinear superposition of the two fs-laser beams at variable angles. The research is embedded in the research network ‘Wissenschaftsräume – ElLiKo’, funded by the Ministry of Science and Culture of Lower Saxony.

We offer a highly interdisciplinary scientific environment and provide expertise and scientific infrastructure for cutting-edge research in collaboration with national and international partners.

Your profile

We are seeking highly motivated candidates with a qualifying university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in experimental physics and a strong interest in the coherent control of ultrafast electron dynamics. We expect practical experience in at least one of the following areas:

  1. Generation and characterization of femtosecond laser pulses,
  2. Photoelectron imaging spectroscopy,
  3. Implementation of a high-vacuum apparatus (high-vacuum techniques, high-voltage electronics, particle detection).

Experimental expertise in femtosecond pulse shaping is ideal. Very good command of English, both written and spoken, is mandatory. Good communication skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary international team are expected. Experience in programming and advanced data analysis is desirable.

Our standards

The University of Oldenburg is dedicated to increase the percentage of female employees in the field of science. Therefore, female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. In accordance to § 21 Section 3 NHG, female candidates with equal qualifications will be preferentially considered. Applicants with disabilities will be given preference in case of equal qualification.

Further information

The positions offer the possibility to pursue a doctoral degree (PhD).
