Our research concentrates on a functional understanding of ecosystem processes using a field experimental approach. Main research interests concern the ecology of coastal and wetland habitats, and the effects of global change such as climatic change and changes in human land use on the interplay between soil, plants and consumers. Current projects focus on plant-herbivore interactions in wetland habitats from temperate to arctic environments, on the breeding ecology of meadow birds (e.g. redshank, meadow pipit) and birds of prey (marsh harrier, hen harrier) in coastal habitats and on the ecology of animal migration. A long-term project on the connectivity of flyways of arctic geese includes experimental field and laboratory studies on the behavioural and nutritional ecology of barnacle geese, satellite telemetric and geolocation light level studies on flyways and timing of migration in arctic geese and on the connectivity of moulting and wintering areas of Anser species using isotopic signatures in feathers. |
