Research

My research concentrates on a functional understanding of ecosystem processes, principally the ecology of coastal and wetland habitats. This includes the effects of anthropogenic global change such as climatic change and changes in human land use on the interplay between soil, plants and consumers. Current projects focus on the breeding ecology of meadow birds (e.g. redshank, meadow pipit) in coastal habitats (TREIBSEL), the management of mainland salt marshes and the performance of multiple ecosystem functions and services in coastal regions (COMTESS).
