My main research focus lies with functional traits of plants. Starting my career studying effects of a plant invader on the autochthonous plant community in a Hawaiian rainforest, I was introduced to functional traits during my PhD project. Here, the main emphasis was placed on trait expressions along environmental gradients, trait-trait relationships and effects of community traits on ecosystem properties.
As a PostDoc I am interested in plant allocation patterns and ecological stoichiometry – the allocation of carbon and nutrients (mainly nitrogen and phosphorus) to different plant organs in relationship to their functional differentiation and to environmental site conditions. My regional expertise include salt marshes (Germany), tropical rainforests (Hawai’i) and forest-savannah ecosystems (Ivory Coast).
