University of Groningen

The universities of Oldenburg and Groningen have been working closely together for more than 30 years – the two institutions first signed a cooperation agreement as early as 1980. The foundation of the University Medical Centre in Oldenburg in 2012 marked another step towards intensifying this cooperation. In addition to the introduction of a joint medical degree programme, research activities in the field of medicine and health sciences were also stepped up. You can find more information about School VI’s cooperation with the University of Groningen here

The University of Groningen (UG) is a research-oriented university in the north of the Netherlands, which was founded over 400 years ago. It regularly achieves top positions in various prestigious university rankings. The University has approximately 30,000 students, who can choose from around 60 Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes, many of which are offered entirely in English.

The University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) was founded in 2005 as a joint initiative of the University of Groningen and the Academic Hospital Groningen (AZG). The UMCG is one of the largest hospitals in the Netherlands and, with more than 10,000 employees, is one of the largest employers in the region. The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Groningen has more than 3,400 students of medicine, dentistry and human movement science.
