Evaluation and refinement of a binaural model regarding spectral processing

  • Language: preferably English, but German possible

Project: Modeling binaural hearing is important for both understanding the underlying processing principles and predicting human sensitivity to interaural cues (e.g., in prototyping and evaluation of hearing device algorithms). Established models of binaural processing are based on a fundamental assumption that does not appear to be met in mammals (delay lines). In my PhD work, I develop a model that does not require this assumption but still accounts for the most decisive phenomena of binaural hearing (i.e. binaural detection). There is already a version of that model. In this thesis, it will be used to simulate a number of psychoacoustic data on spectral aspects in binaural hearing in order to characterize its behavior. In case of shortcomings, the model will be refined.
