New scholarship programme for particularly motivated first-year physics students

Raising tuition fees is a hurdle for many students. Even though physicists in particular have the best career opportunities after successfully completing their studies and are paid much better in the long term than mathematicians or engineers, for example, the tuition fees to be paid are a reason to think carefully about the choice of university, but this decision should be weighed up carefully, as not every university offers equally good conditions and specialisations!

The University of Oldenburg offers particularly practice-relevant and future-oriented study and research focuses, especially in the subject of physics. Graduates of physics here have particularly good prospects on the labour market - companies in many sectors are already courting students during their studies. But the university itself also offers a wide range of opportunities for further qualification after the Bachelor's degree.

The three Oldenburg physics professors Christoph Lienau, Jürgen Parisi and Birger Kollmeier have developed an unconventional idea to overcome the last hurdles to a successful physics degree in Oldenburg: "Each of us finances the tuition fees for a particularly talented or motivated student for two years (four semesters) from research funds," says Kollmeier, explaining the new offer. "We offer them the opportunity to work as a student assistant in our department so that they can gain a small insight into current research work and at the same time make a small contribution to research - so everyone benefits!".

Any newly enrolled student enrolled in the subject Bachelor of Physics can apply for one of these scholarships to the Director of the Institute of Physics, University of Oldenburg, 26111 Oldenburg.
