She is the granddaughter of folk icon Woody Guthrie: Sarah Lee Guthrie. His great-uncle is the American Nobel Prize winner for literature John Steinbeck: Johnny Irion. The couple tour the world together and give concerts. On 28 April, the folk duo will be performing at the University Library.
This is the second time that Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion have performed at the University of Oldenburg. Their first concert in 2012 was completely sold out. On their current tour, the musicians will be performing Guthrie classics as well as their latest album "Wassaic Way".
Sarah Lee Guthrie was born in Massachusetts in 1979 as the daughter of Guthrie's son Arlo. She released her first solo album in 2001, with which she established herself on the American folk scene. She has been working with her husband Johnny Irion since 2005. Almost ten years after the folk duo recorded their first album together, their new album was released this year. Without denying their musical heritage, Guthrie and Irion have found their own style. "This admission leaves the folk duo behind. I think it's the best example of how many facets we can offer," says Johnny Irion about the new album.
The concert will take place on Monday, 28 April at 8.30 pm in the library hall of the university library. Admission is 7 euros, concessions 5 euros. Tickets are available in advance from CvO Unibuch.
