| 1974 | Foundation of the university; Dutch language courses are taught. |
| 1981 | Prof Dr Francis Bulhof is appointed to the new Chair of Dutch Literature. Teachers at grammar schools and secondary schools can take the Dutch extension examination. A lecturer is appointed who is responsible for teaching language practice, regional studies and linguistics. |
| 1984 | Introduction of the Master's degree programme in Dutch Studies (major and minor subject). |
| 1987 | A lecturer and a position for the promotion of young academics are added. |
| 1989 | Academic appointment of Dr Arie Sturm to the new professorship for Dutch Linguistics. |
| 1990 | Introduction of the extension examination for the teaching profession at vocational schools. |
| Since 1992 | Annual colloquia for doctoral and post-doctoral students in the field of Dutch Studies from all over Germany. |
| 1993-1996 | Further training programme for Dutch teachers in Lower Saxony. |

| 1997 | Academic appointment of Dr Ralf Grüttemeier to the professorship of Dutch Literature. |
| 1998 | The position for the promotion of young academics is upgraded to an assistant professorship. Introduction of the Master's degree programme in Dutch Studies (major and minor subject). Renaming of the Master's degree programme in Dutch Studies to Dutch Philology. Addition of a Teaching staff for special tasks in the field of Dutch Studies. |

| 2004 | Introduction of the Bachelor's degree programme in Dutch Studies in winter semester 04/05. |
