Art and Media - Dual-Subject Bachelor's Programme

Within the scope of the Dual-subject Bachelor, you can take Art and Media

  • as a primary or secondary dual subject (60 ECTS) or
  • as a Minor (30 ECTS) combined with a Major

Art and Media can be studied either in connection with a non-teaching career goal or as a professional teaching qualification. If you want to become a teacher, you must follow the combinations of subjects for each teaching position.

Orientation and Goals

Art and Media at the University of Oldenburg combines the theory and history of art with various applied art forms. This programme is focused on the relationship between visual culture and its transmission. Theories of art, media and their transmission, as well as aesthetic processes, are understood as alternating complementary and reciprocal scientific approaches. Teaching in this programme is focused on theories used to analyse different kinds of visual media, the institutions of art and media business and their history, broad artistic practices as well as positions and concepts of teaching art. Much emphasis is placed on modern art and media production.

Foreign Language Skills

In order to study this course at the University of Oldenburg as a student from outside of Germany, you need an adequate knowledge of German.

German Language Proficiency
You can proof your German language proficiency with the following language certificates:
  • DSH: Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang (Level 2)
  • TestDaF: Test – Deutsch als Fremdsprache (with level 4 in all four areas)

Careers and Areas of Employment

This bachelor's programme qualifies graduates to pursue careers in areas of culture that focus on art and media (museums, galleries, media, archives, art sales, journalism, etc.).
Those who wish to continue their studies can do so in several related master's programmes. Examples of these include Art and Media Studies (M.A.), Integrated Media - Audiovisual Media in Practice, Theory, and Transmission (single subject master), Cultural Analysis (single subject master), Museum and Exhibition (single subject master). Students who intend to become teachers can continue their studies with a subsequent Master of Education.

Entrance Examination for Art and Media: The entrance examination consists of theoretical and practical tasks.

Art and Media - The deadline for submission is June 1st of the year of registration. (in German)
Please pay also attention to special admission requirements!

Application/Admission Procedures

This is an open admissions degree course, and application is only possible in the winter semester.
The application deadline for the winter semester is 15 October.

In addition, there is an entrance examination for which the application period ends on 01 June of the year of admission. For further information see: Art and Media - Entrance exam
