She worked in the Netherlands, the United States, and Germany in the fields of cancer etiology and long-term follow-up studies including quantitative modeling. More recent focus involves (childhood) cancer survivorship and late health effects of medical procedures involving ionizing radiation, with a broad interest in other areas in medicine and health care.  She works on a regional, national, and international scale, as study PI, collaborator, mentor, and as expert advisor in consortia for evidence-based medicine, to contribute to adequate translation of new evidence into recommendations for every-day practice.

In December 2021, she joined the Division of Organizational Health Services Research, Department of Health Services Research, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg (Germany), as senior researcher. Also, she serves as the Scientific Coordinator of the Chare-GD Consortia for Cross Border Health (Care) Research, in which investigators from the universities of Oldenburg and Groningen collaborate to study health and health care in the northern border region of the Netherlands and Germany.
