OrgValue - Characteristics of value-based health and social care from organizations’ perspectives

Project description:
The subproject OrgValue will serve as a bridge between the subprojects LYOL-C and MenDis-CHD. It will analyze all health and social care organizations involved in LYOL-C and MenDis-CHD with regard to patient-centered and resource-oriented care. Additionally, the inhibiting or supporting factors for patient-centered and resource-oriented care will be analyzed.
According to Porter et al. (2013), the creation of value-based health care has to come from within the care organizations and from the professionals themselves.
The change process of the organizational level involves intraorganizational cooperation and coordination of care as well as structures and processes (for example IT, management, values, and culture). Thus the project OrgValue will pursue the following aims:

  1. Analyze the implementation of patient-centeredness and resource-orientation in Health and Social Care Organizations (HSCOs)
  2. Identify organizational characteristics (barriers and facilitators) determining the implementation in HSCOs
  3. Develop a diagnostic and feedback tool for HSCOs’ continuous self-evaluation and generate data for organizational learning in HSCOs

Method: Cross-sectional study with integration of mixed methods
Qualitative study: 1) at least 18 semi-structured interviews conducted with decision-makers in leading positions at the involved care organizations in LYOL-C and MenDis-CHD; 2) qualitative focus groups with patients (n=3 or more)
Quantitative study: quantitative surveys with decision-makers in all care organizations involved in the care of the patient groups in LYOL-C and MenDis-CHD (n=1,374)
Development of diagnostic and feedback tools for decision-makers to analyze the status quo in care delivery redesign toward patient-centered and resource-oriented care.
