Science education was represented by two projects at this year's KinderCampus 2025 at the University of Oldenburg.
The DinoSAURierproject under the project leader Laura Haarhus presented innovative approaches to science education together with Dr Mark-Tilo Schmitt. Further information can be found on the project homepage. Brief description: Dinosaurs as we imagine them no longer exist. Or have they? With the help of digital augmented reality models, this is exactly what should become possible. At this station, you can stand next to life-size dinosaur models or take a close look at the dinosaur models' physical features.
Under the direction of Dr Silke Bakenhus, the project QuaSU - Quellenarbeit im Sachunterricht in co-operation with the international Prize Papers Project presented a hands-on station all about letter communication 300 years ago. Three centuries ago, there were no mobile phones - but there were countless letters! How did people send their messages back then? And how did they ensure that a letter remained secret? The children were able to try out how to write with a bird's feather, fold letters skilfully and seal them with a real seal - and discover in a playful way how historical sources come to life.
Both projects invited children to become active themselves and gain insights into the diversity of the subject of general knowledge - through research, discovery and creativity.
