Painting competition for primary school children at Schloss Evenburg from 1 July to 31 August 2025

At the end of project QuaSU - Source work in subject lessonsDr Silke Bakenhus cordially invites primary school children to take part in the "BildSpuren" painting competition at Schloss Evenburg in Leer. From 1 July to 31 August 2025, children can get creative and put their ideas about life at the castle in the past on paper. The pictures submitted will be included in a scientific project to research children's ideas about history.
You can also find more information on the project page: https: //uol.de/quasu

Are you a primary school child? Then take part in the painting competition at Schloss Evenburg!

When: 1 July to 31 August 2025
Where? Schloss Evenburg, Schlossgarten 25, 26789 Leer
For all children of primary school age

Your imagination is in demand!

What was life like at Schloss Evenburg in the past?
Did princesses dance, knights fight and parties take place there?
Or was everything completely different?

It's as simple as that:

  • Sit down at the painting table in the castle (1st floor)
  • Paint your picture
  • Ask your parents to scan the QR code on the back to take part and fill in the consent form
  • Throw your picture into the large picture box
  • If you like: Take part in the raffle and win great book prizes!

Background: Why all this?

I want to find out what children think about life in the past. Your picture will help me to explore the prior knowledge and ideas of primary school children! The pictures will be analysed at the University of Oldenburg - as part of the QuaSU (Quellenarbeit im Sachunterricht) research project on historical learning in non-fiction lessons. The results will then be incorporated into the development of new, exciting learning materials for general knowledge lessons.

Important to know:

  • Participation is voluntary
  • There is no right or wrong - it's your imagination that counts!
  • If your picture is to be used for research, you and your parents must give your consent
  • All data will be treated confidentially
  • For the prize draw, your parents must fill out a short form.

A joint project by:
University of Oldenburg (Sachunterricht department)
Schloss Evenburg (Leer district)
