Pedagogy
The Pedagogy working group organises and plans educational science courses and degree programmes, discusses the content of the individual educational science sub-disciplines and coordinates and advises the work of its members in the various university committees.
1. self-image
Pedagogy (educational science) is the science of upbringing, education, teaching and learning. Students of education acquire fundamental theoretical knowledge and practical skills,
- to justify, select and prepare educational content,
- to initiate, organise, support and promote educational and learning processes for and with people of different ages,
- to develop educational and learning aids and to support processes of social integration and academic appointment development,
- to support and advise people in successfully coping with life,
- to assist them in activating their abilities and developing their potential,
- to take preventative action with regard to individual and social problems.
In all these areas, educators are also involved in planning, organising, evaluating, managing and researching. Pedagogy also provides educational opportunities for a wide range of learning interests, in particular for orientation and further education in work and academic appointments.
In pedagogical training in Oldenburg, great importance is attached to thematising the diversity of people as an important component of a diverse life together (in particular social, cultural, linguistic and geographical origin, gender, sexual orientation, physical, mental and psychological abilities and impairments). This thematisation takes place (in the sense of diversity education) under the guiding principle that one-sided definitions and derogatory attributions must be avoided, patterns of exclusion and socially induced disadvantages must be reduced and equal opportunities for all in education and social services must be realised.
2. co-operation contexts
The working group specialises in general education, diversity-conscious social pedagogy, migration and education and research methods . In the organisation of research and teaching, there is close co-operation with the School Working Group, the Educational Psychology Working Group, the Centre for Migration, Education and Cultural Studies (CMC) and the Centre for Women's and Gender Studies (ZFG). Members of the working group are represented on numerous university committees (Faculty Council, Institute Council, Study Commission, Examining Boards, Doctorate Committee, BA-MA Working Group, University Senate, etc.).
3. tasks in teaching
The Pedagogy working group is primarily responsible for the organisation of teaching on the Bachelor's degree course in Pedagogy and the Master's degree course in Education and Educational Science. Teachers in this working group also offer courses in the teaching-related and non-teaching-related areas of specialisation of the new BA-MA degree programmes.
4. tasks in research
The members of the working group work on numerous research topics that can be assigned to the areas of the specialist groups. The working group is orientated towards the School's research focus entitled "Participation and Education". The resulting fields of research relate to educational processes at the macro, meso and micro levels.
