Perinatal neurobiology group

From around 24 weeks of gestation onwards, brain structures develop connectivity between brain areas, which is fundamental for the development of human consciousness.

Little is known how preterm birth effects on functional brain development. However, preterm born infants are at high risk for later developmental needs.

Our group focuses on the questions:

  • what mediates the risk to develope neonatal brain injury?
  • can we develop ways to interrupt signalling?
  • what are the long-term consequences?
  • how can we study molecular details of perinatal brain injury?
