Fields of Research

The research of the OEO group is devoted to small molecular organic semiconductors

in nature-inspired and nature-mimicking light sensor,

as well as fundamental investigation of their thin film EXCITONIC properties and interface phenomena.


Organic Photodetectors (OPD) from homochiral materials are sensitive to the circular polarization state of light. They allow for polarization based information encoding in optical communication technologies.

Excitonic Circular Dichroism (ECD) is an optical property  in organic matter arising from the strucutral phenomenon of mirror-symmetry breaking in homochiral supramolecular aggregates. In thin films, it can by probed best by Mueller Matrix Ellipsometry. ECD is not necessarily a tiny quantity in organic matter, in some cases it can be giant.

Artificial Organic Photoreceptors (AOPR) are, via photoexcitation and capacitive coupling, able to electrically stimulate neuronal cells. They are envisioned as retinal implants for Vision Restoration.
