The German Physical Society is a partner in the RISE programme (Research Internships in Science and Engineering) run by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The various RISE programmes offer students the opportunity to work closely with a doctoral candidate at a research institute or in industry.

The ‘RISE in North America’ programme for German Bachelor’s students, which has been running since 2009, is now being expanded to ‘RISE Worldwide’. As early as next summer, students will no longer be limited to North America for their research placements, but will be able to go abroad anywhere in the world.

The aim of the programme is to give outstanding students the opportunity, at an early stage, to pursue their specific research interests and gain international experience. The research placements will take place during the summer semester holidays and are aimed at students who, at the time of application, are in their fifth or seventh semester at the latest and will not have completed their degree by autumn 2011.
