KinderUniversität starts with a trip to the moon
Advance ticket sales for the spring semester from 16 February
Oldenburg. Let's go into the 2012 Children's University year: during the six exciting excursions into science in the spring and autumn semesters, the Audimax - the largest lecture theatre at the University of Oldenburg - will once again belong exclusively to the region's eight to twelve-year-olds. "Can you live on the moon? Exploring the celestial body" - this is the title of the first lecture on Wednesday, 7 March, in which physicist Prof. Dr Andreas Engel will take the children to Earth's constant companion.
Philosophy professor Dr Myriam Gerhard and the KinderUni students will get closer to the answer to the big question "What is freedom?" on Wednesday, 14 March. And an exciting journey through church history will be offered by theologian Prof. Dr Andrea Strübind on the topic of "Christians in the fight for human rights" on Wednesday, 21 March.
The lectures start at 4.30 pm. Admission to the lecture theatre centre (A14) on the Haarentor campus is from 4.00 pm.
Tickets (€2) for the spring lectures are available from Thursday 16 February by calling Nordwest Ticket GmbH on 0421/363636 and 01805/361136 (14 ct/min) and at the offices of the Nordwest-Zeitung.
There are numerous other opportunities to discover the world of science under the umbrella of the KinderUniversität: for example in the university chemistry laboratory (CHEMOL), in the Children's Research Centre, in the teaching-learning laboratory physiXS or online at "Physics for Kids" and the Sachunterricht learning workshop. Courses on physics, chemistry, biology and technology are also offered by the Natural Science House Oldenburg (NAWI-Haus). The "Green School" activity days in the Botanical Garden also invite you to join in. Children can experience art up close and get creative themselves in the seminars at the Kunsthalle Emden and the Horst Janssen Museum. The family concerts at the Oldenburg State Theatre take you into the world of music.
The KinderUniversität project would not be possible without the commitment of the sponsors. This year's main sponsor is once again the Landesparkasse zu Oldenburg (LzO). The project also receives considerable support from Nordmetall, the business association "Der Kleine Kreis e.V." and Junge Öffentliche. The Malteser Hilfsdienst provides security on site.
The media partners Nordwest-Zeitung, NDR 1 Niedersachsen and Radio Bremen Vier also make a major contribution to the success of the KinderUniversität.
