Quantum Mechanics on Foot is the title of a textbook by Jochen Pade, physicist at the Institute of Physics at the University of Oldenburg, which was recently published by the renowned scientific publisher Springer.

Jochen Pade has given the lecture "Quantum Mechanics" for the M. Ed. Physics and M. Sc. Engineering Physics degree programmes for many years. In doing so, he not only emphasised the teaching of the fundamentals of quantum mechanics. He was also keen to introduce students to modern concepts and applications in this field of theoretical physics. His many years of varied teaching experience helped him to convey the subject matter, which is generally regarded as difficult by students, in a way that made it more accessible to them.

Early on, Pade provided students with a script for his lectures, which they could use to work through the material and apply and thus consolidate it in many exercises. Many positive re-registering students eventually persuaded him to turn the script into a two-volume book, which has now been published by Springer. The Institute of Physics is confident that it will find a wide readership.
