Oldenburg medical physicist Björn Poppe receives prestigious science prize
Oldenburg. Prof Dr Björn Poppe, Professor of Medical Radiation Physics at the University of Oldenburg, has been awarded the DGMP Science Prize at the annual conference of the German Society for Medical Physics (DGMP) in Jena. The DGMP awards the prize every two years to scientists for their outstanding achievements and services to medical physics. In previous years, research groups from the universities of Tübingen, Heidelberg and Munich have received the prestigious award.
Poppe, who holds an endowed professorship at Pius Hospital Oldenburg and heads the "Medical Radiation Physics" working group at the university, works on the recording and evaluation of radiation doses in radiotherapy.
"Prof. Dr Poppe's award impressively underlines how outstanding research results are achieved through successful co-operation between the university and hospital in Oldenburg," explained University President Prof. Dr Babette Simon.
The science prize is a great recognition of the achievements and honours in particular the dedication and commitment of all members of the working group, emphasised Poppe. The award once again clearly emphasised the leading position of the research activities.
In addition to the science prize, Poppe's working group can be pleased about another award: Dr Ndimofor Chofor received the prize for the best physical work in 2011 in Jena.
