Guided tour of the ForWind laboratories

Oldenburg. The Centre for Lifelong Learning (C3L) is launching its "Science Walk" series of events on Monday 27 January with guided tours of the University of Oldenburg's wind tunnel. Two guided tours will be offered on this day at 3.00 pm and 5.00 pm. Scientists from ForWind - the centre for wind energy research at the universities of Oldenburg, Hanover and Bremen - will provide information about experimental methods used in wind energy research in Oldenburg.

The "Science Walk" was conceived by C3L for the "40 Years University of Oldenburg" programme. The focus is on unusual scientific locations that are normally hidden from public view. The "Science Walk" offers interested parties insights and generally understandable introductions to Oldenburg's research. Registrations are now possible by email: studium.generale@uni-oldenburg.de. Participation is free of charge.

The two guided tours through the ForWind laboratories are themed "Wind energy and turbulence research". The centrepiece is the university's wind tunnel. Turbulent, nature-like wind flows are generated there so that aerodynamic and aeroacoustic properties of objects can be analysed and measured. In the wind tunnel, visitors can experience what different wind speeds feel like and how strong the lift of rotor blades is. The experts also explain how turbulence arises and develops and why it is worth investigating it.
