Sustainable Renewable Energy Technologies (SuRE)

PPRE-Master becomes SuRE-Master

As of October 1st, 2021, the “PPRE” master degree changes its name to M. Sc. in Sustainable Renewable Energy Technologies (SuRE).
It’s only a change of name of the title, since curriculum and profile of the master program will be the same as it was in the previous years.

For further information, please click here.

About SuRE

Starting in 1987, the master programme Sustainable Renewable Energy Technologies (SuRE) - formerly known as Postgraduate Programme Renewable Energy - has graduated more than 563 participants from ~85 countries in over 30 years.

Students (who must hold a 6-semester (180 CP) Bachelor's degree in engineering or science in order to be admitted) with some professional experience in the field of energy study the theory and applications of renewable energy systems, test their skills in labs and outdoor experiments, visit companies and sites, and do an external training in industry or research institutes. The programme is completed with a thesis project.

Successful participation is awarded with an MSc degree. SuRE´s alumni made their careers in industries, consultancies, government bodies, NGOs or in research institutes.
The university keeps good contacts to alumni, who are taking part in regional seminars or are invited to give lectures for the present students. Networking with alumni includes a newsletter, e-mail distribution lists, internet platforms and visits.

The programme has cooperation agreements with universities abroad with the aim of intensifying the exchange of staff, students and curricula in the field of postgraduate renewable education.

Sustainable Renewable Energy Technologies (SuRE)

We offer a MSc programme on the fundamentals of renewable energy, designed for scientists and engineers intending to pursue a professional career in this field.

The next application deadlines are

  • 15th of October 2024 (1 year before entry) only for DAAD applicants from developing countries
  • 15th of January 2025 (9 months before entry) regular application deadline for self-sponsored students and those applying for a scholarship other than DAAD (all countries)

The University of Oldenburg puts emphasis on the agreements for Good Scientific Practice as given by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). The most recent prominent cases of plagiarism should remind students of the negociated agreement of the scientific community.

We expect students to read the following paper "Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice" by DFG given in German and English langauge (second part).

Please also see the official guidelines by the University of Oldenburg (30.09.2002)

Recommendations: Exerpt of "Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice"

What are the consequences of plagiarism?

Legal framework: From the examination regulations for the Master's degree programmes of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

Section 14 Paragraph 3:

„If a student attempts to influence the result of their performance in an examination by means of cheating or by other unauthorised means, the examination will be graded as a fail. Individuals who have violated the examination regulations may be barred from continuing the examination concerned. In that case, the examination in question will be graded as a fail. Before a decision is taken by the Examining Board in line with clauses 1 and 2, the student will have the opportunity to be heard. The student will continue to qualify for the examination until the Examining Board has taken a decision, unless the invigilator decides that temporary exclusion of the student is necessary for the proper conduct of the examination. In serious or repeated cases of fraud, the Examining Board may bar the student from continuing the Master's programme. In this case, the student in question will definitively fail the Master's programme.”

PPRE wins Ars Legendi Prize 2016

PPRE wins one of the most prestigious prizes for education in Germany.

The PPRE programme won this years Ars Legendi Prize (2016). The prize is one of the most prestigious prizes for education in Germany. It is awarded by the Hochschulrektorenkonferenz (HRK) and the Stifterverband. This year the best approach to diversity related teaching and learning was awarded.

Three teams proposed PPRE to the HRK for this prize:

  • Current PPRE students, represented by Mónica and Luis
  • External PPRE students, represented by Annika (current architecture student at Jade Hochschule) and Eseoghene (current EUREC student)
  • PPRE Alumni, represented by Bertha (PPRE batch 1992/1993) and by Indradip (PPRE batch 2003/2004).

Plenty of PPRE related persons gave input to the three teams with their personal views and experiences with PPRE.

Prof. Carsten Agert and Dr. Tanja Behrendt submitted an explanatory statement as representatives of the PPRE team, Prof. Andreas Engel supported the application in his capacity as the dean of study affairs of the School of Mathematics and Science. Hans Holtorf coordinated all the inputs and finally on July 13th 2016 a set of documents was submitted to HRK by Prof. Engel. On Monday, September 26th 2016 Prof. Agert was informed that we were selected to be the winners of this prize.

Thanks to all persons who contributed to this application and special thanks to all the people involved to make this programme such a top level project – the alumni, the staff, the students, the teachers (in alphabetical order!) and many others such as DAAD!
