Green Energy Award for Rising Star, Virginia Ruiz Albacete
by Virginia Ruiz Albacete, Spain (EUREC 2012/13)
Investment Analyst Virginia Ruiz Albacete from Spain (EUREC 2012/13) has won the ‘Rising Star’ accolade at the Scottish Green Energy Awards.
Over 1200 people gathered in Edinburgh for the awards held on St Andrew's Day to recognise and celebrate the determination and innovation - and the people, organisations and communities - that have ensured the continued success of Scotland’s renewable energy sector.
Starting her career at ScottishPower as an intern in 2014, Virginia quickly secured a permanent position after just 2 months, led on the valuation, construction dossiers and Board presentations for 8 onshore wind projects in time for Renewables Obligation (RO) qualification and is now leading on the analysis and valuation for SPR’s offshore business.
Virginia was also part of the Accelerator programme – An international group of professionals from across Iberdrola that assess future strategic scenarios to help grow Iberdrola’s business and report back to Chairman, Ignacio Galán – and actively cooperates as a Stem ambassador, teaching children about renewable energy across Scotland on weekends.
Collecting the award on the night, Virginia said: “It is an incredible honour to be recognised by an industry with such high profile peers who share focus and dedication to ensuring the success of Scotland’s renewable future. A very special personal Thank You and Congratulations to all the Scottish Power Renewables team, for the amazing work they do every day. This moment would not be possible without this team’s support.
Virginia’s award adds to similar recognition she received at the Young Professionals event in Glasgow earlier this year.
