New Guest Researcher from India at the Wuppertal Institute
International Climate protection scholarship for young climate experts from emerging and developing countries
Thanks to the international climate protection scholarship for young climate experts from emerging and developing countries a young researcher took up his office at the Wuppertal Institute. Mitavachan Hiremath is an energy researcher from India who will work on the assessment of energy technologies in the context of sustainability in his annual scholarship in Wuppertal until spring 2019. "To date, the mainstream research in India has focused on only the economic and technical aspects of energy technologies," explains Mitavachan Hiremath. Therefore, during his stay in Germany, he will develop an Integrated Systemic Assessment framework for Indian power system from holistic and practical point of view. The developed framework will be used to evaluate the role of carbon capture and storage (CCS) versus renewable energies in future Indian low carbon scenarios from environmental and economic trade-offs point of view. The results are intended to guide the policy-makers of the country in developing sustainable energy transition pathways for future India.
