Renewable Energy Online (REO) – starting this year!

by Andreas Günther (REO Coordinator)

We are very glad to announce, that our new M.Sc. programme “Renewable Energy Online” (REO) will start in October 2018! Applications are possible from June through August.

The REO programme will be organised by the University of Oldenburg and is closely connected with PPRE and EUREC. However, in contrast to PPRE and EUREC, the design of REO is based on a time-flexible and location independent part-time and online study concept – addressing especially students with job obligations or family duties who cannot study a complete M.Sc. programme in Oldenburg, Germany. It is open for international engineers and natural scientists with a first university degree and at least one year of professional experience, who are interested in developing their career in the broad and future-oriented field of Renewable Energy.

The REO curriculum comprises 120 ECTS credits of mainly online study, including two on-campus periods in Oldenburg of 2 weeks each. The regular study time is 7 semesters with 3 modules per semester and a workload of approximately 20 hours per week. However, due to its modular design, the REO curriculum can be adapted flexibly to the individual life situation of the students. The content of REO covers the fields of renewable energy technologies, systems, sustainability as well as energy economics and other social-science related topics. An online learning management system (C3LLO) provides features and study material for the online study periods, such as textbooks, quizzes and exercises, spaces for group and project work as well as online discussions and presentations. During the on-campus periods in Oldenburg, the students will gain hands-on experience in laboratories, network with colleagues, teachers, scientists and external experts, participate in workshops and a students’ conference as well as visit Renewable Energy companies and installations. Both online and on-campus, the individual learning processes of the students will be supported constantly and intensively by teachers and mentors – to make the REO programme a successful and inspiring Renewable Energy experience for all participants!
