Guest researcher Martina Calais from Murdoch Uni in Perth Australia is doing research with respect to 'Improving PV Penetration in Diesel Networks' for 6 months at HWK & Next Energy

From September 2014 to January 2015 Martina Calais has been granted a Fellowship at the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg (HWK) Institute for Advanced Study in Delmenhorst and works in the Energy Research Area of the Institute. During the fellowship she collaborates with Dr Thilo Kilper, R&D manager for PV systems at NEXT Energy and Craig Carter, Adjunct Professor at Murdoch University. The collaborative research project aims to identify and analyse suitable approaches (using power system simulation tools) to increase PV generation (with or without batteries) in networks with diesel generation. During this time she will also have the opportunity to strengthen Murdoch University’s links to Oldenburg University in the areas of renewable energy and PV systems technology education and student exchange.
Dr Martina Calais is a Senior Lecturer within the School of Engineering and Information Technology at Murdoch University, Perth, Western Australia. She has more than 15 years of teaching and research experience in the areas of renewable energy engineering, power electronics and photovoltaic systems technology. Recent research projects and consultancies include performance estimations of PV systems, input to PV systems related standards, investigations of safety and power quality issues associated with transformerless PV inverters and a safety audit of rooftop PV systems  in collaboration with the Western Australian Department of Education. She is currently a key investigator for an Australia-wide collaborative research project on “Climate Based Photovoltaic System Performance & Reliability” coordinated by the Australian PV Institute.
