Student Conference on the Performance of Renewable Energy Systems
(PRES 2016)

On July 7th the Postgraduate Programme Renewable Energy held its annual student conference on the Performance of Renewable Energy Systems as part of the summer laboratories.

The goal of this conference is to bring students closer to the publication formats of posters, papers and talks which are quite common in scientific communication. The conference topics are the results of the students’ laboratory work on renewable energy systems performed around the Energy Laboratory during the summer semester. For the papers the students had previously submitted manuscripts which were subjected to an anonymous internal peer-review process and will be published in the future.

The topics included Wind and Solar Energy Systems as well as Energy Meteorological Measurements. On the conference the students presented their results by means of 15 minute talks and scientific posters. Everyone could vote for the best poster and talk. The award for Best Talk went to Colleen Lattyak & May Phoo Mon on the topic of "Thunderstorms: analyzing meteorological variables before, during, and after the storm". The Best Poster was awarded to Mónica Gutiérrez & Sonia Rueda on "Assessment of the model proposed by Zanesco, I. et al. (2005) for the calculation of the Loss of Load Probability".

The conference was very successful and the conference committee and laboratory supervisors were more than happy with the extreme professionality and high quality of the contributions.
